DPH to End Reusable Bag Ban, Allow Municipal Plastic Bag Bans to Resume Effect
Later today, the MA Department of Public Health (DPH) is expected to rescind the March 25th Order that previously suspended all local plastic bag ban ordinances and prohibited the use of reusable bags. The order is expected to be effective this Monday, July 13th. RAM expressed our disappointment with the decision as we had urged Baker Administration to extend out the timing of the order, allowing retailers to sell through the existing stock of plastic bags that had been purchased during the COVID-19 crisis. Once the formal announcement is made it will be posted on the RAM website
Reopening Massachusetts Current Status: Phase III, Step 1
Phase Three of the Reopening Massachusetts plan began on Monday July 6th, allowing for gyms, museums, movie theaters and more to resume some operations, with continued social distancing, face-covering and increased hygiene practices in place. Phase Three will "last significantly longer than the other phases," according to Gov. Baker, and is divided into two steps. In Phase III, Step 1, the retail guidance allows for an increase in occupancy to 50%. All industry guidance including for retail and restaurants is included in the sector-specific safety protocols and recommended best practices. All businesses must continue to comply with the Mandatory Safety Standards for Workplaces. All members are encouraged to closely review the new Phase III guidance to ensure compliance.
